I was momentarily distracted either in conversation with my friend or was changing lenses on my camera, I can’t remember which. Much to my delight I was rearrested when the opening notes of “Round Midnight” came wafting through the microphone.
I missed Wallace Roney stuff the mute in his trumpet, lest I might have guessed. The Miles Davis cannon was the order of the day at Al Foster’s birthday celebration at Smoke.
I have never heard the trumpet on Round Midnight played so beautifully, except on the original Miles Davis recording.
Oh the joys of simple things!
